Site Manager for Senator George Norris Home - Part Time

This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, operating the Senator George Norris Historic Site in McCook, Nebraska. The Nebraska State Historical Society (NSHS) is seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Historic Site Manager who will share information with visitors, give tours, and answer questions about the Norris house and its historical significance. This position is tasked with building connections and relationships within the greater McCook area, and performing other duties as assigned. Work schedule varies. Weekends are typically required.

This position will work as part of a dedicated team of history professionals, including a productive working relationship with staff members across the state, as well as across various agency departments.

NSHS is Nebraska’s statewide historical agency, funded by taxpayers and donors, and serving the public through its library and research center, conservation facility, historic sites, museums and state archeology and historic preservation offices.

Qualifications / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/Training or experience in customer assistance, public relations, event planning, sales, recreation, Nebraska history, supervision, or working directly with the public. OR Post high school coursework/training in social/behavioral science or business administration.


Other: Regular and reliable attendance required. Hour will vary with some weekends.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Desire to learn Nebraska history.
  • Excellent customer service, phone, and email correspondence skills; detail-oriented, organized, ability to multi-task, work under minimal supervision, and be self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Interacts and maintains a close working relationship with diverse individuals.
  • Act in accordance to the program/administrative policies and directives.
  • Work professionally with the public and employees.
