About

The McCook Lettering story goes back a long ways! Gary Wiemers founder of the screen print and embroidery departments of McCook Lettering and still is a part of the family business to this day, started his career in the grocery business with Safeway in the late 60’s and early 70’s. With a great work ethic and a passion to own his own business, Gary located to McCook Nebraska in 1972 to open his own grocery store called Wiemers Supermarket! After 10 years in the grocery business in southwest Nebraska, Gary took to his entrepreneurial skills and opened a western work wear clothing store in 1982 in McCook known as Gary’s Country Peddler.  As the business grew Gary and his wife Barb took on yet another task of adding McCook Lettering to Gary’s Country Peddler in 1985! McCook Lettering at that time did chenille, chain stitch and embroidery all by hand! On a learn as you go bases along with Gary’s work ethic and customer service experience the business took off and Gary brought on his daughter Sara in 1987 to start yet another department called screen printing! As they worked side by side to perfect the art of screen print they envisioned that computers were the future! So once again trusting his entrepreneurial heart and passion for offering a great product for people, along with the support of his wife and daughter they purchased a single head computerized embroidery machine and brought in computer design software to generate custom films for screen printing and a digitizer to build custom embroidery designs all in store, folks this was in 1988!

After 10 years of perfecting the screen print and embroidery market and becoming one of the best in the garment decorating business, Gary brought on his son Tom to work with Sara to carry on the screen print and embroidery legacy of McCook Lettering! At this time many would have thought Gary would have set back and watched his business ventures flourish but not Gary! This opportunity gave him yet another chance to follow his heart and in 2001 Gary opened a men’s fine clothing store called Garrison’s for Men offering men’s suits, ties, tuxedo’s and much more in downtown McCook! In 2004 as space became available the stores came together as three businesses under one roof Gary’s Country Peddler, McCook Lettering and Garrison’s for Men! Today Sara and Tom now run the day to day operations as Gary still has a hand in the company working where he sees fit, weather it is screen printing, pulling t-shirts, ordering a pair of boots, fitting a tux or handing down that great work ethic and customer service skill's while training a new staff member, which really has been the staple of Gary’s success of owning his own businesses over the past 45 years! Thank you to all who have supported our stores over the years and we look forward to serving you in the future and beyond!
