POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinator at the McCook YMCA is responsible for assisting with Youth Development programming, including Summer Day Camp, special events, and After-School. They will uphold and demonstrate the YMCA Core Values of respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, and inclusion for program participants. They will support the YMCA mission of strengthening community by interacting with members in a positive and meaningful way. Members are defined as anyone with a current or potential relationship with the Y, such as children, parents, staff, volunteers, community, and guests.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with all Youth Development programming, including but not limited to: Summer Day Camp, After-school Program, and Special Events.
  • Designs and implements new Youth Development Programming.
  • Supervise and monitor the safety of children and group activities.
  • Encourage appropriate behavior through positive reinforcement and/or redirection. Document and communicate inappropriate behaviors following disciplinary procedures.
  • Create a positive rapport with all youth, parents, volunteers, and staff. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment is provided for all program participants. Maintain facilities and equipment.
  • Nurture children by facilitating purposeful programming that supports growth and enrichment opportunities.

Provide opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provide daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.

Attend and participate in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

Communicate with parents and families in a professional manner.

Other duties as deemed necessary by the Youth Development Director.


REQUIREMENTS:

18 years old or older.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or working towards degree in youth related field is preferred.

Available to work some evenings and weekends for special events or other programming.

Will work 40 hours a week during Summer Day Camp and approximately 25 hours a week all other times of the year, averaging approximately 29 hours a week.

Must be able to stand, remain outdoors and maintain continued physical endurance for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.

Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions. Watch, listen, and facilitate group activities.

Must be able to supervise and instruct large groups of children. Knowledge of sports and children’s programming preferred.

Integrity and ability to work independently with attention to detail required.

Demonstrated leadership and dependability.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Operation of 12-person passenger van for transportation purposes.

Background checks will be performed.

CPR and First Aid preferred.

Prior experience working with children preferred.
